Odeefoo Oteng Korankye II

Chief of Berekuso & Twafohene of Akwapem

Odeefoo Oteng Korankye II became Chief of Berekuso in 1996. His leadership has placed strong emphasis on education, community development and building opportunities for young people. Working with the elders and community, he supported the acquisition of 17 acres for a new school compound and later secured support for teacher accommodation. He has also supported pupils with learning materials, sports activities, BECE fees and transport to examination centres.

His long-term vision is for Berekuso to become a centre of excellence for education and purposeful development. His leadership has also welcomed partnerships that strengthen education and skills development, including the growth of Ashesi University and more recent technical and vocational development initiatives in the community.

OUR HERITAGE

Preserving the Legacy

Berekuso has a long history connected to the movement of Akwamu people through several settlements before their establishment at the present town. Historical accounts place the settlement at present-day Berekuso around 1420 under Nana Adu Mireku. The town is associated with the story of River Boade and the phrase “Bra-oku-noso”, traditionally linked to the naming of Berekuso. The community later became known for observing the Ohum Festival, a tradition associated with the town since the 17th century.
